Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to adequately support opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i and Edwin Sifuna, warning that failure to do so could weaken efforts to challenge President William Ruto in the next General Election.

Kaluma argued that the opposition needs sufficient financial resources to organise, mobilise supporters and mount a credible political challenge against Ruto.

In his remarks, the legislator cautioned that without adequate funding for the three leaders, the President could face little effective competition in the race for another term.

“Uhuru Kenyatta, President Ruto will be re-elected unopposed if you fail to adequately fund Sifuna, Matiang’i, and Kalonzo,” Kaluma said.

The remarks highlight the growing debate within opposition circles over campaign financing, political coordination and the need to unite leaders seeking to challenge the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna have featured in opposition political discussions as leaders whose roles could shape efforts to build an alternative political alliance.

Kaluma’s statement also places attention on Uhuru, who remains an influential figure in Kenya’s political landscape, amid questions about his potential role in supporting opposition mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

With the next election approaching, opposition leaders face the task of building political alliances, agreeing on a common strategy and mobilising resources to compete against the incumbent administration.
