Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu, has vowed to help dismantle the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), accusing the ruling party of betraying the promises that attracted Kenyans ahead of the 2022 General Election.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Ali recalled his role in popularising UDA before the 2022 polls, saying he had campaigned for the party in the hope of improving the lives of ordinary Kenyans.
The lawmaker expressed disappointment with the party’s leadership, accusing it of abandoning the vision that initially inspired him and other supporters to rally behind it.
“In 2022, we walked door-to-door, singing their anthem, in the hope of uplifting our people. We bought into their vision only to be dealt with deception!” Ali stated.
His remarks come as the United Opposition continues its political tour of the Coast region, with leaders seeking to consolidate their support in the area ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Ali’s declaration marks a significant shift from his previous role in building support for UDA, the party that propelled President William Ruto to power in 2022.
The Nyali MP is also positioning himself for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections, where he is seeking to succeed Governor Abdulswamad Nassir after completing two terms as the area’s legislator.
As part of his political realignment, Ali has joined the Wiper Patriotic Movement, which he intends to use as the vehicle for his gubernatorial ambitions.
He has also been appointed deputy leader of the party, pending ratification by its National Delegates Conference.
His latest remarks are likely to intensify political debate along the Coast as opposition leaders seek to challenge UDA’s influence in the region ahead of the next General Election.
With the 2027 polls approaching, Ali’s public break with the ruling party signals a new chapter in his political journey, as he seeks to establish himself within the opposition while pursuing his ambition to lead Mombasa County.
