Controversial preacher Paul Mackenzie, his wife and 29 other co-accused have arrived at the Mombasa High Court ahead of the delivery of a judgement in a case in which they face 191 counts of murder.
The judgement is set to be delivered by Lady Justice Diana Kavedza, marking a significant moment in the high-profile Shakahola massacre case that has drawn national and international attention.
Mackenzie and his co-accused are facing charges linked to the deaths of followers associated with the Good News International Church in the Shakahola area of Kilifi County.
The case stems from the Shakahola tragedy, in which hundreds of bodies were discovered in mass graves in 2023, prompting extensive investigations into the activities of the religious group.
Prosecutors have pursued charges against Mackenzie and other suspects over the deaths, with the court proceedings seeking to establish individual criminal responsibility.
The arrival of the accused at the Mombasa High Court sets the stage for the much-anticipated ruling by Justice Kavedza.
The court’s judgement is expected to determine the outcome of the murder charges against the accused persons.
