Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has hit back at President William Ruto, insisting that Kenyans want to live in a free and democratic country where the right to life and fundamental freedoms are protected.
In a strongly worded social media post directed at the Head of State, Sifuna argued that the protection of human life and civil liberties should take precedence over material development and other achievements.
“It’s actually the other way round Mr. President,” Sifuna stated, challenging Ruto’s position on the matter
Sifuna further invoked the Bill of Rights, arguing that the placement of the right to life and fundamental freedoms at the forefront underscores their importance in a democratic society.
“There is a reason the right to life and the fundamental freedoms come first in the Bill of Rights,” he said.
Sifuna also referenced the deaths of Rex Maasai and Albert Ojwang as he emphasised the importance of protecting human life and upholding democratic principles in Kenya.
“More than anything else we want to live in a free and democratic country because in the dark of the grave where you put Rex Maasai and Albert Ojwang, you can’t see shiny things,” Sifuna added.
