Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has highlighted improved security in the Kerio Valley, citing the recovery of 2,300 firearms and 8,000 rounds of ammunition over the past year as Kenya prepares to celebrate Mashujaa Day on Monday, October 20, 2026.
Murkomen said the security gains reflect ongoing government efforts to restore peace in areas previously affected by banditry and armed violence.
“This Mashujaa Day, we celebrate improved security in the Kerio Valley, marked by the recovery of 2,300 firearms and 8,000 rounds of ammunition over the past year, alongside the recruitment of 10,000 police officers,” Murkomen said.
The Interior CS also pointed to the recruitment of 10,000 police officers as part of measures aimed at strengthening the country’s security capacity and improving the protection of citizens.
His remarks come as the government intensifies preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, which will bring together national leaders, security agencies and members of the public to honour Kenyans who have made significant contributions to the country’s development and freedom.
