Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that he will lead Kenyans to Raila Odinga’s “Canaan,” issuing a pointed political message against President William Ruto ahead of the August 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, October 19, Kalonzo said he was determined to deliver Kenyans to what he described as Raila’s Canaan while likening Ruto to the biblical Pharaoh.
“I will deliver Kenyans to Raila’s Canaan. Pharaoh (Ruto) will drown in August 2027,” Kalonzo declared.
The remarks draw from the biblical account of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt, with Pharaoh’s army drowning while pursuing them. Kalonzo used the analogy to portray the 2027 election as a defining political contest against the incumbent president.
His reference to Raila Odinga’s “Canaan” also draws on a political metaphor associated with the promise of change and a better future, a phrase that has featured prominently in Kenya’s political discourse.
Kalonzo’s statement adds to the political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 polls, as leaders position themselves for the contest to determine the country’s next president.
The remarks signal a combative tone in Kalonzo’s messaging towards Ruto, although the statement alone does not establish the specific coalition arrangements or political strategy he intends to pursue.
