The Kenya Medical Association (KMA) has called on the Ministry of Health and its partners to strengthen measures to protect healthcare workers following confirmed Ebola infections among frontline medical personnel in Kenya.

In a statement dated Monday, October 19, 2026, KMA expressed solidarity with affected healthcare workers, their families and medical teams caring for them, describing the infections among frontline colleagues as deeply concerning.

The association stressed that every healthcare worker deserves a safe working environment and timely access to the highest standard of medical care.

“We reaffirm that every healthcare worker deserves a safe working environment and timely access to the highest standard of care,” KMA said.

The association urged the Ministry of Health and its partners to ensure prompt assessment, referral and quality treatment for affected healthcare workers, alongside adequate supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) and continuous infection prevention and control (IPC) training.

KMA also called for confidential psychosocial support for affected workers and their families to help them cope with the emotional and psychological impact of the outbreak.

The association further urged health facility managers to address safety gaps, strengthen systems for reporting potential exposure and establish a supportive, non-punitive working environment that encourages healthcare workers to report suspected infections or exposure without fear.

KMA emphasised the importance of strict adherence to Ministry of Health infection prevention and control guidelines, urging healthcare workers to report any suspected exposure immediately.

It advised anyone developing symptoms to stop working, avoid contact with others and seek urgent medical assessment through established public health response channels.

The association said it would continue advocating for the protection, welfare and access to healthcare of medical personnel affected by the outbreak.

“To our affected colleagues: we honour your service, value your sacrifice, and stand firmly with you. You are not alone,” the statement read.

The statement was signed by KMA President Dr Ibrahim Matende, who reaffirmed the association’s commitment to championing the safety and welfare of healthcare workers as Kenya responds to the Ebola outbreak.
