Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS) Douglas Kanja has approved the promotion of 1,948 police officers whose career advancements had been pending, following a ruling by the Court of Appeal of Kenya.

In a statement, the National Police Service said the promotions follow the court’s ruling in Civil Appeal Nos. E971 and E957 of 2025, paving the way for the affected officers to advance to various ranks.

The Service noted that the officers had successfully completed the required promotional courses and met all prescribed conditions for advancement, adding that their promotions take effect accordingly.

He urged the officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and diligence, emphasising that promotion comes with increased responsibility in the discharge of their duties.

The Inspector General further called on the officers to serve with fairness and accountability while respecting the rule of law.

According to the NPS, the promotions are expected to enhance operational efficiency and improve service delivery to the public, in line with ongoing reforms and the Service’s strategic objectives.

The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to transforming policing through professionalism, efficiency, responsiveness and accountability, with a focus on protecting and serving the public.

The development marks a significant step in addressing the pending promotions of the affected officers following the Court of Appeal’s decision.
