Linda Mwananchi has paid tribute to young Kenyans who lost their lives while fighting for justice, accountability and an improved Kenya, as the country marks Mashujaa Day.
In a message shared on X on Tuesday, October 20, Linda Mwananchi said the country must remember the sacrifices made by young people who died during protests against injustice and alleged police brutality.
She specifically honoured Rex Masai, Albert Ojwang, David Chege, Eric Shieni, Caroline Shiramba and Denzel Omondi, alongside other young Kenyans whose lives were cut short amid calls for accountability and reforms.
“Today, we honour the brave young Kenyans who paid the ultimate price in the fight for justice, accountability, and a better Kenya,” the statement read.
The message noted that although the young Kenyans were no longer alive, their courage and sacrifices should continue to inspire the country’s pursuit of a better future.
Linda Mwananchi further urged Kenyans to keep alive the dreams of those who lost their lives, stressing that their aspirations for a just and accountable nation must be carried forward by the living.
“They may be gone, but their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their dreams for a better Kenya must live on through us,” the message stated.
The tribute comes as Kenyans celebrate Mashujaa Day, a national holiday dedicated to honouring individuals who have made significant contributions to the country’s freedom, development and progress.
The message also broadens the meaning of heroism beyond the country’s historical freedom fighters, recognising young citizens whose activism and calls for justice have shaped national conversations on human rights, governance and police accountability.
Linda Mwananchi concluded the message by honouring the deceased as fallen heroes, wishing Kenyans a meaningful Mashujaa Day.
