The United States has warned its citizens in Saudi Arabia of possible further attacks on airports and critical infrastructure following hostilities involving Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement.
In a security alert issued on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the US Mission to Saudi Arabia said the attacks had caused civilian casualties and significant travel disruptions, warning that the situation could escalate rapidly beyond the affected areas.
The mission urged American citizens to follow emergency alerts issued by Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence through mobile phone broadcasts and remain alert to further security developments.
US government employees working in Saudi Arabia have also been required to obtain special authorisation from the Chief of Mission before using any airport in the kingdom, following recent missile and unmanned aerial vehicle attacks.
According to the advisory, operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh remained suspended, while King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam continued operating amid delays and cancellations.
The mission cautioned travellers about the possibility of further attacks, airspace closures, flight cancellations and other disruptions, urging them to exercise extreme caution when using Saudi airports.
Passengers were advised to confirm their flight status directly with their airlines and the relevant airports before travelling.
The alert comes amid escalating tensions involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, with attacks targeting civilian infrastructure raising concerns over regional security and the safety of air travel.
