Former Boston Marathon champion Sharon Cherop has announced plans to challenge an Eldoret High Court ruling that awarded her 40 per cent of properties jointly contested with her former husband, Mathew Bowen.
Cherop says she has instructed her lawyer to file an appeal, arguing that she is dissatisfied with the court’s decision and intends to have it reviewed by the Court of Appeal.
The dispute revolves around properties valued at more than KSh40 million, including residential houses, rental units and parcels of land situated in Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.
In court documents, Cherop maintained that she solely acquired the properties using proceeds from her participation in international athletics competitions.
However, Bowen disputed her position, arguing that he also made financial contributions towards the acquisition of the properties.
The High Court subsequently ruled that Cherop was entitled to 40 per cent of the contested assets, a decision she now intends to challenge through the appellate court.
The planned appeal is expected to extend the legal battle over the ownership and distribution of the multi-million-shilling property portfolio.
