African financial institutions and major Asian banks are pursuing a financing agreement worth more than $1 billion to support infrastructure, energy, industrial and trade projects in West Africa.
The proposed deal follows discussions held in Bangkok, Thailand, on October 15, 2026, convened by Global Markets and the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID).
The institutions are targeting an executable financing agreement within three to six months, although the proposal remains subject to due diligence and regulatory approvals.
The financing is expected to support projects in sectors considered important to economic growth across West Africa, including infrastructure development, energy and industrial production.
Global Markets Chief Executive Officer Kwamina Duker said the initiative was aimed at connecting African investment opportunities with Asian capital.
The discussions form part of broader efforts to strengthen financial cooperation between African institutions and international investors, while expanding access to funding for development projects.
The proposed agreement has not yet been finalised, and its eventual scope will depend on the outcome of due diligence and the required regulatory processes.
