The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has held high-level talks with Belgium’s Ambassador to Kenya, Tom Neijens, aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the fight against corruption and transnational economic crimes.

The meeting, held at the Integrity Centre, brought together EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud and Ambassador Neijens to explore areas of collaboration between Kenya and Belgium in combating corruption and promoting good governance.

Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in mutual legal assistance, institutional capacity building, asset recovery frameworks and cross-border information sharing.

Speaking during the engagement, Mohamud said the meeting aligned with the Commission’s strategic focus on partnerships and collaborations, noting that international cooperation was increasingly important as corruption-related crimes continued to cross national borders.

He emphasised the need for coordinated international action to track illicit financial flows, strengthen investigations and ensure that perpetrators of economic crimes are brought to justice.

Ambassador Neijens commended the EACC for its role in promoting integrity and good governance in Kenya, reaffirming Belgium’s support for the Commission’s mandate.

The engagement underscores the importance of international partnerships in strengthening anti-corruption efforts, particularly in addressing economic crimes that require cooperation between law enforcement agencies across different jurisdictions.

Through enhanced collaboration, Kenya and Belgium seek to strengthen mechanisms for information exchange, asset recovery and legal assistance in tackling corruption and related financial crimes.
