Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife, Susan Wangari, will remain in custody after the Anti-Corruption Court postponed their sentencing in the Sh588.2 million roads tender case.
The court deferred the sentencing to seek directions from the High Court over a legal dispute concerning the couple’s acquittal on money-laundering charges.
The development has delayed the conclusion of the high-profile corruption case, which centres on alleged irregularities in the award of road construction tenders during Waititu’s tenure as Kiambu governor.
Waititu and Wangari are expected to return to court on October 27, when the matter will come up for further directions.
The dispute over the money-laundering acquittals remains a key issue in determining the next steps in the proceedings.
The couple will continue to remain in custody as they await the court’s next decision.
