Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has mourned the 22 people who died in the fatal road crash at Kanga area near Mtito Andei along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
In a condolence message, Gachagua expressed sympathy with the families who lost their loved ones and wished those injured a quick recovery.
“I share in the pain and grief of the families who have lost their loved ones and wish those injured a quick recovery,” he said.
Gachagua also prayed for the victims, asking God to grant them eternal rest, as he urged motorists and other road users to exercise caution during the rainy season.
With the Christmas festivities approaching and families preparing to travel for the holidays, the former Deputy President called on road users to remain vigilant and observe safety measures.
He also urged authorities responsible for road safety to take stronger measures to protect Kenyans on highways and prevent avoidable accidents.
“No Kenyan, no human being deserves to lose a life out of negligence and recklessness,” Gachagua said.
The crash occurred on Sunday, October 25, and involved a public service vehicle and a commercial vehicle. The National Transport and Safety Authority said preliminary reports suggested improper overtaking may have contributed to the head-on collision, with investigations ongoing.
