Saudi Arabia has suspended travel to Kenya for its citizens and temporarily halted the issuance of visas and entry for travellers arriving from the country over concerns about the spread of Ebola.
The restrictions, announced through Saudi state media, follow assessments by the kingdom’s health authorities on the Ebola situation in Kenya and the potential risk of further transmission.
Under the new measures, Saudi citizens have been prohibited from travelling to Kenya, while individuals seeking to enter Saudi Arabia from Kenya will also be affected by the temporary suspension.
The decision is part of precautionary measures aimed at preventing the possible spread of the disease into the kingdom.
The restrictions are expected to affect travel arrangements between the two countries, particularly for Kenyans planning to travel to Saudi Arabia for employment, business, religious activities and other engagements.Saudi authorities have not indicated how long the restrictions will remain in place or when normal travel and visa services will resume.
The announcement comes amid heightened health surveillance and containment efforts following the Ebola cases reported in Kenya.
