Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has presided over the opening of a container holding Grade Six and Grade Nine national examination materials at the Deputy County Commissioner’s office in Makindu, Makueni County, as national assessments begin across the country.

More than 2.4 million learners are expected to sit the examinations, with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) reporting that 1,298,089 candidates will undertake the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), while 1,130,669 will sit the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

The examinations will run for five days, with sessions scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. daily. Candidates completed their rehearsal exercises on Friday, October 23, to familiarise themselves with the examination procedures and regulations.

The Ministry of Education has cautioned parents, candidates and members of the public against claims of early access to examination papers, warning them not to be misled by individuals claiming to possess the papers or offering to facilitate examination cheating.

The ministry says the warning is part of efforts to protect the integrity of the assessments and ensure all candidates sit the examinations under fair and transparent conditions.

It has also acknowledged the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions in some parts of the country, noting that it is working with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration and KNEC to address potential disruptions.

The collaboration is intended to ensure the secure and timely delivery of examination materials to designated centres and facilitate the smooth administration of the assessments despite weather-related difficulties.

Parents and school administrators have been urged to cooperate with examination officials and adhere to established guidelines throughout the exercise.

The government says the measures are aimed at ensuring eligible learners complete their assessments with minimal disruption while safeguarding the security and credibility of the national examinations.
