Several people have been arrested following protests against high fuel prices and the rising cost of living in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
The demonstrations, involving activists and members of the public, saw protesters take to the streets carrying placards and chanting slogans critical of the government over the rising cost of essential goods and services.
Tension gripped parts of the city centre as demonstrators clashed with police officers attempting to disperse the crowds.
The unrest also disrupted business operations, with some traders forced to close their shops amid concerns over the unfolding situation.
The protesters are demanding urgent government intervention to lower fuel prices and ease the financial burden on Kenyans struggling to meet the rising costs of basic necessities.
They argue that high fuel prices have far-reaching effects on household budgets, particularly through increased transport fares and the rising prices of essential consumer goods.
The demonstrations reflect growing public frustration over the cost of living, with fuel prices remaining a key concern due to their impact on transportation, trade and the cost of delivering goods and services.
The government is being urged to introduce measures that would provide relief to households and businesses grappling with the rising cost of living.
