Detectives in Kisumu have arrested two suspects believed to be linked to a series of robberies in the town and its environs following a high-speed chase involving a black Toyota Prado.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the operation followed a report by a woman who told police that she and her friends had been robbed of five mobile phones by individuals travelling in a black Toyota Prado.

Acting on the report, Kisumu Central detectives traced the vehicle, registration number KDX 642Y, and attempted to intercept it. However, the driver allegedly ignored police orders to stop and sped off, prompting a pursuit through the town.

Officers later shot at the vehicle’s tyres near Oile Park, puncturing them. The Prado veered out of control and crashed into an electric pole, damaging its front-right side.

The two occupants, identified as William Onyango Odhiambo and Felix Owino Onyango, were arrested as they attempted to flee from the wrecked vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a black pistol and three mobile phones, which detectives secured as exhibits.

The DCI said investigations were ongoing to establish the suspects’ possible links to other robberies, including reported cross-border incidents.

The two remain in custody as police process the case ahead of their expected arraignment in court.
