Police in Siaya and Ukwala have launched investigations into a suspected double murder after a man identified as Dennis Okoth allegedly confessed to killing his wife and his employer in separate incidents.

Ugenya Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Benson Musyioka said the suspect allegedly killed his wife, Brenda Okoth, in September last year following a domestic dispute before burying her remains inside a house in Alego Ndere, Siaya County.

The suspect reportedly fled the area and later secured domestic employment in Urenga Village, Ugenya Sub-County, where he allegedly killed his employer, Eunice Atieno, on September 3, 2026, following a disagreement.

According to Musyioka, the suspect subsequently buried Atieno’s body inside a house designated for domestic workers before fleeing to Kakamega County with his two-year-old son.

He was later arrested during a police operation and taken to Ukwala Police Station, where detectives began questioning him over the alleged killings.

Musyioka said the suspect initially confessed to killing his employer. However, three days later, further interrogation about the whereabouts of his wife reportedly led to a second confession, prompting Ugenya detectives to notify their counterparts in Siaya County.

Homicide detectives subsequently visited the suspect’s former residence in Ndere, where they discovered what appeared to be a grave inside a bedroom.

Police obtained a court order to exhume the remains, which were transported to the Siaya County Referral Morgue for a postmortem examination as investigations continued.

Meanwhile, Ukwala Law Courts have granted police 14 days to detain the suspect as detectives pursue further investigations into the two deaths.

Families of the deceased women have appealed to investigators to expedite the process and ensure justice is served.

Brenda’s family, which hails from Bungoma County, says it endured a prolonged search for her after reporting her disappearance at Ugunja Police Station last year.

The family is now appealing for financial assistance to facilitate the transportation of her remains to Bungoma, where she is expected to be buried in accordance with Luhya customs.

The relatives say they hope to give Brenda a dignified send-off after months of uncertainty surrounding her disappearance.

Police investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the two deaths, with the suspect remaining in custody as detectives prepare their case.
