England captain Harry Kane has won the 2026 Men’s Ballon d’Or, becoming the first Englishman in 25 years to claim football’s most prestigious individual award.

The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker was crowned at the 70th edition of the ceremony held at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, finishing ahead of Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.

Kane’s triumph rewards a remarkable 2025/26 campaign in which he scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country, establishing himself as one of the most prolific forwards in world football.

Of those goals, 61 came for Bayern Munich and 12 for England, underlining his consistency at both club and international level.

Kane’s extraordinary scoring record was central to his success in the Ballon d’Or race. At Bayern, he helped the German giants retain the Bundesliga title, win the DFB-Pokal and lift the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, completing a domestic treble.

He also finished as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer for the third consecutive season and netted 14 goals in the UEFA Champions League as Bayern reached the semi-finals.

His ability to deliver consistently across domestic and European competitions strengthened his case for the individual honour, particularly against a field featuring some of the world’s leading attacking talents.

On the international stage, Kane captained England to the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring six goals during the tournament as the Three Lions finished third.

England’s run to the last four, combined with Kane’s individual contribution, added another significant achievement to his season and reinforced his influence as the national team’s leader. <Cite refs={[“turn344929news12″,”turn344929search6”]}/>

Kane becomes the first Englishman to win the men’s Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen claimed the award in 2001.

He is also only the fifth English player to receive the honour, joining Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Owen in the history books.

The award marks a major milestone in Kane’s career, having developed from a young forward who worked through loan spells and early career challenges into one of the leading strikers of his generation.

Speaking after receiving the award, Kane said: “I am almost speechless.”

He also reflected on the challenges he faced earlier in his career, crediting self-belief, determination and hard work for helping him reach the highest level.

Kane further acknowledged the role played by his teammates and coaches, describing his goalscoring achievements as a collective effort.

The Bayern forward also won the Men’s Striker of the Year award, capping a season in which his goals, silverware and leadership combined to propel him to the summit of world football.
