Darajani Gogo have rejected a KSh 7 million sponsorship offer from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) in a dispute over their relegation to the FKF Division One League.
The federation had approached the club with the proposal as part of efforts to facilitate the promotion of four teams to the National Super League (NSL), Kenya’s second-tier football competition.
However, Darajani Gogo declined the offer and opted to challenge their demotion in court, contesting the decision to relegate them to the third tier.
The club subsequently secured a court order reinstating them to the NSL, with the court also halting the start of the new season pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The legal dispute has consequently put the commencement of the NSL season on hold as the parties await further court proceedings.
The matter is scheduled for mention on November 17 at the Machakos High Court, where directions on the case are expected.
The outcome of the case could determine Darajani Gogo’s league status and have implications for FKF’s plans to promote four teams to the NSL.
