Thirteen vehicles were detained along Nairobi’s Southern Bypass during a night-time road safety operation targeting traffic violations and unsafe vehicles.
The operation was conducted by a multi-agency team as part of efforts to curb road accidents under the National Transport and Safety Authority’s (NTSA) “Msimu Bila Ajali, Usalama Barabarani” campaign.
According to the update, officers flagged several safety violations involving drivers and vehicles.
Some drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol or operating with expired driving licences.
Vehicle-related violations included expired inspection stickers, lack of valid insurance, breaches of insurance terms, broken headlights and cracked windscreens.
The campaign combines public education with day and night compliance checks to discourage risky driving and improve road safety.
NTSA’s safety checks also target speeding, defective speed limiters, compliance with passenger capacity limits, driver documentation and the use of seatbelts by all occupants.
Motorists have been urged to cooperate with officers at checkpoints, reduce speed at night, maintain safe following distances and avoid distractions while driving.
