Detectives have arrested a suspect linked to a series of robberies in which criminals allegedly pose as traffic police officers to ambush people after they withdraw cash from banks.
The suspect was arrested in Embakasi Village following intelligence gathering and forensic analysis by detectives from the Operation Action Team (OAT) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB).
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), investigators identified four key suspects believed to be connected to the incidents.
One of them, Muia Mutune, also known as Fredrick Mbuta, was arrested in April 2026 over similar cases but was released on bond in July.
Detectives continued pursuing leads before locating and arresting him in Embakasi Village.
He is being held in custody as officers process him ahead of his arraignment in court.
The DCI said investigations are ongoing as detectives pursue the suspect’s alleged accomplices, who remain at large.
