A clinician based in Yala, Siaya County, has been charged with defilement following allegations involving a 14-year-old girl.

In a statement dated October 29, 2026, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said the decision to charge the suspect followed a review of an inquiry file submitted by the National Police Service.

The clinician faces a charge of defilement contrary to Section 8(1), as read with Section 8(3), of the Sexual Offences Act, No. 3 of 2006.

The ODPP reiterated that sexual offences cannot be diverted from the formal justice system and must be handled in accordance with the law and its policy guidelines.

The office reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting vulnerable persons and independently and impartially discharging its constitutional mandate.
