Kenyan and United States law enforcement agencies have seized more than $750,000 from a cryptocurrency account belonging to a Kenyan national suspected of being connected to an international fraud scheme.

The United States Embassy in Nairobi said the seizure was made possible through intelligence and assistance provided by Kenyan investigative agencies as part of a joint effort to dismantle an international fraud network and protect citizens.

In a statement shared on Friday, October 30, the embassy credited the longstanding security cooperation between Kenya and the United States for the progress made in tackling the fraud scheme.

“Tackling an international fraud ring of this scale is the result of longstanding cooperation between Kenya and the United States,” the embassy stated.

The embassy acknowledged the contributions of several Kenyan institutions, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Financial Reporting Centre (FRC).

It expressed gratitude to Kenyan law enforcement officers and prosecutors for their assistance and professionalism in supporting the investigations.

The US Embassy further indicated that investigations into the international fraud network were still ongoing, warning that the joint investigative team had not concluded its work.

“This team of investigators is not finished with their work to fight fraud and protect citizens,” the statement added.
