COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has called for legal action against retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of violating the oath of office by disclosing government secrets.
Atwoli made the remarks in Elukanji Village, Khwisero Constituency, Kakamega County, during the launch of a water project. He argued that former presidents should not disclose classified government information after leaving office.
His comments followed Uhuru’s recent assertion that the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga won the 2022 presidential election, despite the Supreme Court having upheld President William Ruto’s victory.
Atwoli’s call for action was supported by Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka, who accused Uhuru of working with opposition leaders against the Ruto administration.
Atwoli has previously called for constitutional provisions to regulate the conduct and political activities of retired presidents.
