The United Nations Human Rights Office has called on the Tanzanian government to make public the findings of an inquiry into violence that followed the country’s elections a year ago.
In a statement shared by Agather Atuhaire on X, the office called for the release of the report prepared by a commission led by Chande, as well as justice for victims and accountability for those responsible.
The statement criticised President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s handling of the inquiry, alleging that she had declined to make the report public after the commission submitted its findings.
It further accused the government of withholding information on the violence, which it said resulted in the deaths of thousands of Tanzanians.
The UN Human Rights Office said the findings should be made public to support efforts to establish accountability and secure justice for those affected.
