Jubilee presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i has called for a people-driven process in selecting the opposition’s presidential flag bearer ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Matiang’i maintained that the decision on who should carry the opposition’s presidential ticket must be left to Kenyans rather than individual political leaders.
In a statement, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary insisted that no leader should impose their preferred candidate on the electorate, arguing that the people must have the freedom to make the final decision.
“Kenyans must have the final say in choosing the flag bearer. No leader should dictate whom the people must support,” Matiang’i stated.
He further emphasised that the country’s political future belongs to all citizens, adding that their voices should guide the process of identifying the most suitable candidate.
“The future of our country belongs to all Kenyans, and their voices must guide that decision,” he added.
His remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and discussions within opposition circles over a possible joint presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
