Former Nairobi Provincial Commissioner Davis Nathan Chelogoi has been sentenced to three years in prison following his conviction in a Sh1.3 billion land fraud case involving a 7.39-hectare parcel in Lower Kabete, Nairobi.
The sentence was delivered by Magistrate Dolphina Alego after the court found Chelogoi guilty on five of the six counts he faced in the case.
The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, meaning the former provincial administrator will serve a total of three years in prison.
Chelogoi will also not have the option of paying a fine as an alternative to the custodial sentence, with the court imposing a prison term.
The case revolves around alleged fraudulent dealings involving the acquisition and disposal of the prime Lower Kabete property, which is valued at approximately Sh1.3 billion.
Prosecutors had accused Chelogoi of being involved in fraudulent transactions surrounding the high-value parcel of land, leading to his prosecution over the disputed ownership and dealings.
Chelogoi, who served as Nairobi Provincial Commissioner during the administration of former President Daniel arap Moi, has been embroiled in the protracted land dispute for several years.
