European stock markets slipped on Tuesday as technology shares came under pressure amid concerns about the sustainability of the global artificial intelligence investment boom.
The STOXX 600 was down 0.4 per cent at 647.13 points by 9:55 GMT, with technology companies among the biggest contributors to the decline.
Shares in semiconductor equipment makers STMicroelectronics and ASML fell by more than 1.1 per cent.
Investors were also assessing weaker-than-expected results from major US technology companies and Apple’s outlook for holiday-quarter gross margins.
The market uncertainty comes as companies continue committing significant resources to AI infrastructure, even as investors question how quickly those investments will translate into profits.
Meanwhile, oil prices rebounded above $100 a barrel amid renewed tensions involving the United States and Iran, adding to concerns about the wider economic outlook.
