Two lorry drivers died in an early morning road accident at the Migaa blackspot along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway after one truck rammed into another from behind.
The accident occurred at around 1am, with Molo Sub-County Police Commander Justus Katana confirming that both drivers died at the scene.
A woman and a child who were travelling in one of the lorries sustained injuries and were rushed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital (PGH) for treatment.
Following the crash, Salgaa Business Community Chairman Livingstone Sowe called on the government to fast-track the expansion of the Rironi-Mau Summit road to address road safety concerns along the busy highway.
Sowe identified the four-kilometre Migaa-X-Margaret stretch, which currently has two lanes, as a longstanding traffic challenge.
He urged Roads Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir to prioritise the expansion of the section, saying it would help reduce accidents and traffic congestion.
Local residents and business operators in Salgaa are expected to intensify pressure on the government over the proposed road expansion.
