The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) have moved to strengthen their cooperation in tackling transnational organised crime, money laundering, fraud and terrorism financing.

The renewed commitment followed a high-level meeting between DCI Director Mohamed I.

Amin and an INTERPOL delegation led by its Executive Director for Investigation Support (EDIS), Stephen Fry, at DCI Headquarters.

The discussions focused on strengthening the existing framework of international police cooperation between Kenya and INTERPOL, with particular emphasis on enhancing strategies for financial investigations and building the capacity of law enforcement officers.

The two security chiefs also reviewed the operational performance and daily activities of the National Central Bureau (NCB) Nairobi, which coordinates INTERPOL-related policing activities in Kenya.

Speaking during the meeting, Amin expressed appreciation for INTERPOL’s continued support and cooperation with the DCI, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships in addressing emerging security threats.

On his part, Fry reaffirmed INTERPOL’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Kenya, noting that tackling transnational organised crime requires stronger intelligence sharing, joint financial investigations and continuous capacity building for law enforcement officers.

He identified money laundering, fraud and terrorism financing among the criminal activities that require enhanced international cooperation to effectively combat.

The meeting was also attended by EDIS Assistant Director Sebastian Breul, INTERPOL Regional Bureau for Eastern Africa Head and EAPCCO Secretariat Chief Executive Officer Apolo Africa, Regional Specialised Officer at the Nairobi Bureau Muhammad Riziki, and Chief Inspector Andrew Chege, who represented NCB Nairobi Chief Mueni Mutisya.

The engagement underscores the DCI’s continued efforts to strengthen international security partnerships and joint operations aimed at combating money laundering, fraud, cybercrime and terrorism financing.
