Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Jesús Owono has spoken publicly for the first time following the death of fellow footballer Jesús de Miguel, describing the period as the most difficult days of his life.
In a statement, Owono expressed grief over the loss, saying he was struggling to process what had happened and find the right words to describe his pain.
“These are being the most difficult days of my life. It’s hard for me to find the words and I find it very difficult to assimilate anything that has happened,” he said.
Owono also extended his thoughts to de Miguel’s family and those who knew and loved him, acknowledging that there were several matters that would eventually need to be addressed.
He, however, said his immediate focus remained on mourning the deceased rather than addressing other issues surrounding the tragedy.
“I feel enormous pain for the loss of Jesus. I think of him, his family and all the people who loved him,” Owono stated.
The goalkeeper added that he would face any matters that arise with respect but said he was currently struggling with the loss.
“Rest in peace, Jesus,” he concluded.
Owono’s statement comes as the football community mourns de Miguel’s death.
