The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) have held talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in tackling transnational organised crime.
The discussions took place during a meeting between an INTERPOL delegation led by its Executive Director for Investigation Support, Stephen Fry, and DCI Director Mohamed I. Amin at the DCI headquarters.
According to the DCI, the meeting focused on strengthening international police cooperation between Kenya and INTERPOL, with particular attention to financial investigations and capacity building for law enforcement officers.
The two sides also reviewed the operational performance and daily activities of the National Central Bureau (NCB) Nairobi, which coordinates INTERPOL-related activities in Kenya.
Amin welcomed INTERPOL’s continued support and cooperation with Kenya’s security agencies.
Fry reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Kenya, saying tackling transnational organised crime, money laundering, fraud and terrorism financing requires stronger intelligence sharing, joint financial investigations and continuous training of officers.
The meeting was also attended by INTERPOL Assistant Director for Investigation Support Sebastian Breul, Head of the INTERPOL Regional Bureau for Eastern Africa Apolo Africa, Regional Specialised Officer Muhammad Riziki and Chief Inspector Andrew Chege, who represented NCB Nairobi head Mueni Mutisya.
The DCI said the engagement underscored its commitment to working with international partners and other agencies to address security threats, including money laundering, fraud, cybercrime and terrorism financing.
