Amnesty International Kenya has documented 22 cases of enforced disappearance in the country in 2026, raising concerns over the continued abduction of individuals and calling for urgent government intervention.

In a statement, the organisation cited the abduction of Advocate Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi as the latest incident highlighting what it described as an alarming trend.

Amnesty Kenya demanded Abdi’s immediate release, accountability for those responsible and an end to enforced disappearances.

The organisation warned against normalising abductions, insisting that individuals must not be subjected to unlawful detention or disappearance without accountability.

The latest appeal adds to growing concerns among human rights organisations over reported abductions and disappearances in Kenya, with calls for authorities to investigate the cases and ensure the protection of fundamental rights.

Amnesty Kenya urged the government to take action to establish the whereabouts of Abdi and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
