The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a public apology to Peter Waembu Waweru after erroneously identifying him as the tenant of a residential house where suspected contraband goods were recovered in Kimorori, Murang’a South.
In a correction statement, the DCI clarified that its post published on January 13, 2026, contained inaccurate information regarding the ownership or tenancy of the premises where the suspected contraband goods were recovered.
The investigative agency acknowledged that Mr Waweru had been wrongly identified as the tenant of the property and expressed regret over the error.
“The DCI sincerely apologises to Mr Waweru for this inaccurate attribution and any inconvenience it may have caused,” the agency stated.
The Directorate further reaffirmed its commitment to accuracy, fairness and responsible public communication, noting the importance of ensuring that information shared with the public is accurate.
The apology comes as the agency moves to correct the record and clear Mr Waweru’s name following the inaccurate identification in its earlier communication.
