Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured residents of Two Rivers Crescent Estate in Kiambu County of enhanced security amid a land dispute that has raised concerns over the safety and protection of property.
Murkomen said the government would take immediate steps to safeguard residents and ensure that their constitutional right to property is protected.
The CS made the commitment on Thursday after appearing before the Senate Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources, chaired by Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki, at Bunge Tower in Nairobi.
He assured the committee and affected residents that the government would visit Two Rivers Crescent Estate to assess the security situation and establish facts surrounding the land dispute.
“It is the cardinal duty of the Government to protect the lives and property of its citizens,” Murkomen said.
He further maintained that the government was committed to ensuring that anyone found violating citizens’ property rights would be held accountable under the law.
“We are committed to safeguarding every citizen’s right to property and ensuring that anyone who violates this right is held accountable under the law,” he stated.
The planned visit is expected to give the government an opportunity to assess the situation on the ground, gather relevant information and determine the necessary security interventions.
