Kariobangi Sharks players Eustas Chesara and Patillah Omoto are among several people arrested in connection with the assault of referee John Sulwe during the club’s FKF Premier League playoff second-leg clash against Mombasa United.

The two players were arrested by police earlier Thursday morning while attending a training session with their teammates.

Their arrest follows an incident in which referee Sulwe was allegedly assaulted during the highly charged playoff encounter, raising concerns over the safety of match officials in Kenyan football.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is understood to have initiated the process that led to the arrests as investigations into the incident continue.

The arrests mark a significant development in the case, with police expected to pursue further investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the assault and determine the responsibility of those involved.
