The Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Human Rights Violations has processed 157 claims valued at KSh96.95 million under Phase VII of its compensation programme targeting victims of human rights violations, including those arising from demonstrations and public protests.

In an update released on Thursday, November 5, 2026, the Panel said the claims cover both civilian victims and uniformed officers who suffered various forms of harm.

The verified claims fall under categories including fatalities, aggravated injuries, severe injuries, moderate injuries, minor injuries and economic losses.

According to the breakdown, 47 claims involving severe injuries accounted for KSh47 million, while 74 claims relating to moderate injuries attracted KSh37 million.

The Panel also processed 19 claims involving minor injuries worth KSh950,000, alongside 11 claims for economic losses amounting to KSh550,000.

A fatality claim was valued at KSh3 million, while other injury-related claims accounted for the remaining compensation.

The Panel said it continues to receive claims through official channels and is making progress in verifying and compensating eligible victims across the different categories of harm.

However, it announced that November 14, 2026, will be the deadline for receiving new compensation claims, urging victims who have not submitted their applications to do so before the cut-off date.

“Victims who have not yet submitted their claims are urged to do so before the deadline,” the Panel stated.

It further clarified that every application will undergo strict verification and authentication before a decision is made, with claimants expected to be notified of the outcome within a reasonable period. The Panel, chaired by Prof.

Makau Mutua, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no eligible victim is left behind, adding that it will continue engaging victims, their families and beneficiaries to address concerns and provide updates on the status of their applications.

The Panel’s offices are located on the Ground Floor of the Kenya International Conference Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
