Businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi has ruled out joining the Ukombozi Alliance, distancing himself from the political outfit associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Wanjigi said he could not be part of the alliance as the opposition landscape continues to undergo major realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“I can’t join Uhuru and Kalonzo’s Ukombozi,” Wanjigi said.
His remarks come as opposition leaders continue to explore different political formations and alliances ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Ukombozi Alliance emerged after the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition was rebranded in September 2026, with Kalonzo announcing that the coalition had unanimously agreed to adopt the new name.
The alliance has since faced questions over its membership and attempts to bring additional opposition players on board.
Some political actors, including allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, have publicly distanced themselves from the formation.
Wanjigi’s position adds another dimension to the ongoing opposition realignment, with various leaders and parties pursuing separate political strategies as preparations for the 2027 election gather momentum.
The businessman has previously been involved in opposition politics and has maintained an active political profile as parties position themselves for the next electoral contest.
