I&M Bank Kenya has appointed Abdi Mohamed as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 5, 2026, following approval by the Central Bank of Kenya.
Mohamed takes over the leadership of the lender after serving as Country CEO and Managing Director of Absa Bank Kenya, bringing extensive experience in Kenya’s banking and financial services sector.
His appointment comes as I&M Bank seeks to strengthen its growth strategy and expand its position in the Kenyan and wider regional financial markets.
I&M Group Executive Director Sarit Raja Shah welcomed Mohamed’s appointment, saying his experience and deep understanding of the Kenyan and regional financial sector would be valuable as the bank enters its next phase of growth.
Mohamed’s move to I&M Bank marks a major leadership transition within Kenya’s banking industry, following his tenure at Absa Bank Kenya.
Meanwhile, Kihara Maina, who had been serving as I&M Bank Kenya’s interim CEO, will resume his substantive role as Regional CEO of I&M Group.
The leadership changes are expected to provide continuity while positioning I&M Bank for further growth and transformation in an increasingly competitive financial services market.
