Police officers in Baringo County have recovered an illegal firearm and four rounds of ammunition following a voluntary surrender by a resident of Musuro area.

The National Police Service (NPS) said the firearm, accompanied by a magazine loaded with four rounds of ammunition, was handed over to police officers at Mukutani Police Station on Friday, October 30, 2026.

According to the police, the resident initially surrendered the weapon to a National Government Administrative Officer (NGAO) representative in Mukutani, who subsequently delivered it to the police.

The recovery highlights ongoing collaboration between local administrators, security agencies and members of the public in efforts to rid the region of illegal firearms.

In a statement, the NPS commended the continued cooperation of residents in supporting security operations, noting that the multi-agency campaign against illegal firearms and banditry remains ongoing.

The police urged members of the public to continue providing information on illegal firearms and suspicious activities to support efforts to enhance security.

“Reports of illegal firearms or suspicious activities should be made at the nearest police camp, post or police station,” the NPS stated.

The voluntary surrender comes amid sustained security efforts in the region aimed at tackling banditry and recovering illegal weapons.
