The Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) has intensified preparations for the 2026 Africa Boxing Championship after naming 40 boxers for a non-residential training camp as the country gears up to host the continental tournament in Nairobi.
The selected boxers have reported to Mathare Police Depot, where they have begun training as the federation kicks off the initial phase of the selection process.
The camp is expected to provide an important opportunity for the technical team to assess the boxers as they work towards assembling Kenya’s final squad for the championship.
Kenya will host the continental competition in Nairobi from October 12 to 28, with the Kasarani Indoor Arena set to serve as the main venue.
More than 20 countries are expected to participate in the championship, bringing together some of the continent’s leading boxers for what is expected to be a highly competitive tournament.
With Kenya hosting the event, the BFK is now focused on ensuring the national team is adequately prepared to compete on home soil.
The ongoing camp will therefore be closely watched as the federation moves towards narrowing down the 40-member group and naming the boxers who will represent Kenya at the championship.
The tournament will also provide Kenya with an opportunity to showcase its boxing talent in front of a home crowd while strengthening the country’s position as a host of major continental sporting events.
