The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to strengthen joint efforts to combat drug trafficking and the illicit narcotics trade.

The agreement establishes a framework for enhanced collaboration between the two law enforcement agencies, with a focus on intelligence-led investigations, financial investigations, information sharing and the use of modern investigative techniques.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, DCI Director Mohamed I. Amin expressed appreciation to the US government for its continued partnership and support, noting that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to tackling transnational organised crime.

Amin warned that drug trafficking and the illicit narcotics trade remain significant threats to public health, national security and community wellbeing.

He emphasised the need for coordinated, intelligence-driven operations, observing that no single country or law enforcement agency can effectively tackle the increasingly complex nature of transnational criminal networks in isolation.

The DCI chief said the partnership would strengthen investigative capabilities, improve intelligence sharing and enable the agencies to respond more effectively to emerging criminal threats.

On his part, DEA Acting Special Agent in Charge Christopher A. Dziedzic expressed confidence that the agreement would enhance the effectiveness of investigations and advance the shared objectives of the two agencies.

Dziedzic underscored the importance of mutual trust, sustained cooperation and a unified approach in confronting drug trafficking networks and associated criminal activities.

The agreement further reinforces the longstanding partnership between Kenya and the United States in law enforcement, providing a strategic framework for disrupting narcotics trafficking networks and strengthening cross-border security.
