Detectives have arrested Kassim Abdi Sebu, who was wanted over his alleged involvement in violence and property destruction reported in Homa Bay County during the Linda Mwananchi political tour in August 2026.
Sebu was arrested on Thursday night at a hideout in Homa Bay Town bus park, according to Homa Bay County Criminal Investigations Officer Jimmy Kisobo.
Kisobo said Sebu had an active arrest warrant after investigators linked him to the chaos witnessed during the Linda Mwananchi rally on August 16, 2026, and property destruction reported in Homa Bay Town a day earlier.
His arrest follows an August directive by the National Police Service (NPS) ordering him to surrender to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Homa Bay to assist with ongoing investigations.
At the time, the police identified Sebu among individuals being sought in connection with the violence that accompanied the political tour.
Police Intensify Crackdown on Suspected Criminal Gangs
The unrest triggered intensified police operations targeting suspected criminal gangs in Homa Bay and neighbouring areas.
During a weekend crackdown, police arrested 37 suspects who were allegedly found in possession of crude weapons.
Authorities reported that 12 suspects in Homa Bay had already taken plea and were released on various bond terms, while two others remained under investigation over gun-related incidents.
In neighbouring Kisumu County, another 15 suspects arrested while allegedly possessing crude weapons on the eve of a political rally were also presented in court.
Investigations Ongoing
Sebu’s arrest is expected to provide investigators with an opportunity to advance inquiries into the violence and destruction reported during the Linda Mwananchi political tour.
The operation forms part of broader efforts by security agencies to address politically linked violence and maintain law and order in the region.
However, investigations are ongoing.
