The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two traffic police officers over allegations of extorting bribes from motorists along the Maua–Makutano Road near Kemu in Meru County.

The officers, identified as Senior Sergeant Robert Kibet Busienei and Police Constable Janet Rose Makena, were arrested on Friday, October 16, following a targeted surveillance operation by the commission.

According to the EACC, investigators recovered KSh23,000 in various denominations from the two officers during the operation.

The commission also impounded a Toyota Fielder, registration number KDC 873T, which was parked beside the road.

Following their arrest, the officers were escorted to the EACC Upper Eastern Regional Office in Isiolo for processing and the recording of their statements.

The commission reiterated its commitment to combating bribery and corruption, urging public officers to uphold integrity and accountability in the performance of their duties.

The two officers remain suspects, and the allegations against them have not been determined by a court.
