The first eligible contacts being monitored for Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) in Kenya are expected to return home from Sunday, October 25, after completing the mandatory 21-day monitoring period.
The development was announced following the eighth National Ebola Taskforce meeting chaired by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni on Friday.
The taskforce reviewed progress in Kenya’s response to the outbreak, including surveillance, case management, isolation facilities, essential supplies and resource mobilisation.
Health authorities reported that all 135 contacts linked to the initial case had been traced, with no evidence of community transmission.
The Ministry also reported that all 14 samples collected from alerts across the country in the previous 24 hours had tested negative.
The contacts will be allowed to return home provided they complete the required monitoring period and meet the applicable health protocols.
Muthoni reaffirmed the government’s commitment to containing the outbreak through a coordinated response involving government agencies and the public.
