Five suspects have been arrested following a police operation targeting the production of illicit alcohol in Soweto, Nairobi Region.

The National Police Service (NPS) said the operation also led to the seizure and destruction of approximately 1,300 litres of Kangara, alongside brewing equipment used in the production of the illegal brew.

According to the police, the suspects remain in custody pending processing and arraignment in court to face relevant charges.

The latest crackdown forms part of ongoing nationwide operations targeting the production, distribution and consumption of illicit alcoholic drinks.

The National Police Service maintained that the operations will continue across the country to protect communities from the health and social dangers associated with unregulated alcoholic beverages.
