The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has summoned Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United for a hearing following the abandonment of their Kenya Premier League (KPL) promotion and relegation playoff return leg.
The hearing is scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2026, at Weston Hotel in Nairobi, starting at 10:00 a.m., with each club required to send two representatives.
The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee is expected to hear from both sides over the incidents that forced the match to be stopped at Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Trouble erupted after the referee awarded Mombasa United a penalty, triggering protests from Kariobangi Sharks players who disputed the decision.
The situation escalated into disorder on the pitch, forcing the abandonment of the crucial encounter as uncertainty grew over the outcome of the promotion playoff.
Mombasa United Held First-Leg Advantage
Mombasa United had arrived in Nairobi with a 2-1 advantage following their victory in the first leg at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.
The return leg was expected to determine the team that would secure a place in the top-flight league next season, making the interruption a major setback for both clubs.
The FKF hearing will provide an opportunity for the two teams to explain their positions before the federation determines the next course of action.
It remains unclear whether disciplinary sanctions will be imposed or how the abandoned fixture will be resolved.
The federation’s decision is likely to be significant for both clubs as they await clarity on their fate in the promotion and relegation battle.
